Machine Learning isn’t science fiction anymore. It’s not locked away in research labs or reserved for Silicon Valley elites. It’s shaping the ads we see, the music we stream, the fraud alerts on our credit cards, and even the way billion-dollar companies make decisions. But here’s the question… do we really know how it works?Welcome to the Data Voyagers Podcast: Navigating the Stories Behind the Numbers.
Presented by Igor Alcantara and Angelika Klidas, today's episode is about “Machine Learning.” No, it is the Rage Against the Machine… Learning, it is more The Rise for The Machine. Turn your volume up and join us in this journey.

We live in a time where data is everywhere but wisdom is rare. A time where more data is available. But, with all this power, are we thinking better or just… faster? The real challenge of the information age isn’t access to data, it’s knowing how to think with data.
In today's Episode, Igor Alcantara and Angelika Klidas welcome Kevin Hanegan to discuss critical thinking. Critical thinking isn’t just a nice-to-have, it’s the difference between blindly following numbers and truly understanding what they mean. Listen to this episode and check out how Critical Thinking can not only improve your business but make you a better citizen.

We make an estimated 35,000 decisions every day. Most of them are small — what to eat, what to wear, whether to read the notification or ignore it. But others? They shape careers, relationships, businesses, the house we live in… our lives.
In today's Episode, Igor Alcantara and Angelika Klidas will talk about decision making. Some decisions are made in milliseconds. Others paralyze us for days. Some we make from the gut, others from a dashboard. But here’s the question: Can decision-making be taught, modeled, and optimized? Listen to this episode and find out.

What do dirty-dish standoffs, tariff negotiations, ride-share fee wars, marriage conflicts, and self-driving cars negotiating a four-way stop have in common?  They’re all games, and the stakes are higher than you think. In this episode, Igor Alcantara and Angelika Klidas channel their inner secret agents to reveal how Game Theory turns everyday choices into strategic missions, and how a single tweak to the “rules” can flip winners and losers overnight.
You’ll learn why incentives rule the world, how reputation keeps price wars from turning nuclear, and why a dash of randomness is your best defense against being out-guessed. From roommate dish duty to multi-agent AIs, we unpack the moves, countermoves, and mixed strategies that shape business, tech, and your daily life.

Statistical thinking is not just about numbers. It’s about understanding variation, uncertainty, and how to reason from evidence. In this episode, we borrow the mindset of Sherlock Holmes to uncover how statistical thinking helps us find hidden clues in data, make better decisions, and avoid being fooled by randomness.
In this episode, Igor Alcantara and Angelika Klidas explore the concepts, traps, and paradoxes of data and show you how to think and look at data not as an analyst but as a detective.

Generative AI is everywhere in our lives now. Tools like OpenAI ChatGPT, Antropic Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, Sora, Midjourney and others allow people to become much more productive. However, there is always a risk, for society, for your job and, of course, for yourself. Understanding how something works equips with better to know how to responsibly use it and to be ready to what comes next.
In this episode, Igor Alcantara and Angelika Klidas take you behind the scenes of generative AI, from the GANs and transformers that started it all to the diffusion models crafting images step by step. Join us as they share real-world stories. A hospital turning patient notes into poetry and a deepfake that nearly derailed a product launch, let's break down why prompt literacy is now a must-have skill for data pros, and explain how human oversight keeps AI honest.
In the Data Stories segment, we bring you a paper with a new approach to handle unbalanced datasets for Machine Learning using Neural Networks.

#06 - Language Centric Analytics

Wednesday Jun 04, 2025

Wednesday Jun 04, 2025

Experts say that History as we know it starts when humans invent a written form of communication. Everything before is called prehistoric for that reason. However, a lot happen before the first cave person lay its hand covered with paint made from blood and plants in a wall. We formed small societies thousands of years ago and a way to keep every bigger groups together was through communication.
We use language for almost everything we do, and we have doing so for a long time. Language is the most natural form to interact to one another and to express ideas. Even when you're alone with your thoughts, you think and process information in the form of language.
Data Analytics is one of the rare fields where we do things differently. We do not use language per se, or natural language. We use mouse, charts, tables, and queries. That is unnatural. It is artificial and inefficient. Not anymore. With modern LLM technology we are now finally able to implement a whole new concept: Analytics centric in language instead of dashboards, reports or queries.
In this episode, Igor Alcantara and Angelika Klidas discuss the birth of Language-Centric Analytics, the concepts and the impact in the field of analytics and in society as a whole.
